POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of licensed staff, all Paraeducators perform tasks related to instruction and supervision of students, perform clerical and supportive tasks, and other duties as assigned. A desire and ability to work with students is essential. This is a leave replacement position and is not expected to continue year to year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESDepending on assignment, duties include:
- Working with students individually or in small groups on learning tasks.
- Interacting with students with special needs in a warm and understanding manner.
- Monitoring student behavior and maintaining an orderly classroom environment.
- Supervising students before, during, or after school.
- Performing behavior support and management.
- Supporting teachers with clerical tasks such as grading, record-keeping, and preparing materials.
- Providing personal care and assisting students with self-help needs as prescribed.
- Following health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Working as a positive team member and communicating effectively with staff, students, and parents.
- Maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating professionalism.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reports to Middle or High School Principal. Receives direction from Teachers and/or the Special Services Director.
WORKING CONDITIONSMay experience interruptions; work may be outdoors in inclement weather; may deal with distressed students; exposed to infectious diseases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience- Excellent communication skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of college or higher, or an Associate’s degree, or ability to pass the Para-Pro test, or completion of the Fundamental Course of Study.
- Experience working with school-aged children and in diverse settings.
- Successful fingerprinting clearance and proof of immunizations as required.
- Knowledge of basic subjects.
- Effective communication and positive interaction with children.
- Flexibility, organization, and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work independently.
First aid and CPR training; fingerprinting and background checks.
Physical Requirements- Continuous talking, hearing, seeing, handling, fingering, grasping.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching.
- Occasional sitting, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, turning, twisting, kneeling.
- Rare climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling.
