THE POSITION: CVA Special Services Teacher (K-8) 1.0 continuing
The Valley School District's Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA), a virtual parent partnership program serving students throughout Washington state, seeks a full-time endorsed special education teacher for grades K-8.
This is a continuing 180-day contract with five additional optional days beginning in August 2024.
A qualified applicant is prepared to work with students, parents, and staff serving students in grades K-8 with IEP development, instruction, and progress monitoring. Successful candidates will also be prepared to support students in SEL/behavior with students one-on-one and in groups through enhanced technologies remotely. In addition, we are seeking a recognized teacher leader to work collaboratively with staff focused on improving instruction and student learning.
The position begins onsite full-time with the potential for approval of partial offsite work (up to 4 days per week offsite) dependent upon mastery of program processes, learning systems and materials, and proficient or higher evaluations. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND FUNCTIONS:
The teacher will implement programs under state and federal guidelines for educating children with disabilities, including the following:
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Training and experience to successfully serve SEL/behavior IEP goals.
- Implement evidence-based diagnostic techniques and educational plans with long-range and short-term goals for students.
- In collaboration with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, design and implement specially designed instruction in the least restrictive environment for each student according to the IEP.
- Design and facilitate one-on-one and group lessons for targeted learning goals in SEL/behavior.
- Plan and provide specially designed instruction for students' academic needs and SEL/behavior according to student IEPs.
- Assist parents in identifying and delivering student academic instruction needs.
- Coordinate and conduct IEP meetings with support from special education staff.
- Lead and collaborate with staff to monitor progress and communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
- Work in collaboration with the Principal, Special Services Director, general education teachers, and special education staff.
- Collaborate with special education and general education staff to provide meaningful educational opportunities given each student's unique circumstances.
- Collaborate with special education staff and general education teachers to scaffold curriculum.
- Serve as a member of the Student Success Team (SST).
- Provide supervision of special education para-educators, including implementing IEP instructional design, coaching, and training.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective, timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
- Work in accordance with special education and Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) rules and regulations.
- Maintain a prioritized customer focus, develop and maintain positive relationships, and build credibility and trust.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Special Education Director.
- Bachelor's Degree, an endorsement in Special Education, any additional core subject areas, and a valid Washington State certification.
- Successful experience as a special education teacher at the elementary and/or middle school levels.
- Successful experience serving students with SEL/behavior IEP goals.
- Knowledge of federal laws and state rules/regulations governing Special Education and the ability to link IEP content to state and national learning goals.
- Successful experience with ALE/online/remote learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- High degree of flexibility, self-motivation, ability to adjust and use new approaches in performing duties.

- Possess knowledge of the Washington State teacher evaluation system and specifically the Marzano Evaluation Framework.
- A background in educational technology, Microsoft Office products, and be able to integrate technology to enhance learning in synchronous virtual one-on-one and group settings.
