Master's Degree in School Counseling and meets certification requirements as established by the Georgia Department of Education. Certified in field and meets all requirements to be "Highly Qualified" as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act.

Incumbent must be able to provide a Criminal Background Check with results that adhere to Emanuel County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
Knowledge of counseling services. Evidence of exemplary human relation skills as well as organization and planning skills. Evidence of ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Performance FunctionsDemonstrates the ability to:
- Develops a positive climate that encourages students and teachers to make optimum use of counseling services.
- Coordinates and implements delivery of counseling services in areas of self-knowledge, educational and occupational exploration, career planning to facilitate academic achievement, as well as character/drug free education.
- Schedules time to provide opportunities for various types of counseling.
- Counsels learners individually by actively listening, identifying and defining issues, discussing alternative solutions, and formulating a plan of action.
- Proactively leads and contributes to conferences with parents.
- Adheres to established system policies and procedures in scheduling appointments and obtaining parental permission.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and students' records.
- Engages in continuous professional development and renews certification in a timely manner.
- Leads counseling or support groups for learners experiencing similar problems
- Evaluates effectiveness of group counseling and makes revisions as necessary.
- Coordinates with school staff to provide supportive instructional guidance activities.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Conducts classroom guidance activities related to identified goals and objectives.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, county policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of students under his or her supervision.
- Gathers and evaluates data to determine effectiveness of classroom and student comprehension, making revisions when necessary.
- Provides direct/indirect educationally-based guidance assistance to learners preparing for test‑taking.
- Provides information to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and when appropriate, to the community on student test scores.
- Provides information to students and parents on career planning.
- Consults, as needed, with system/staff, parents, and community about issues and concerns.
- Coordinates school wide events to enhance character and drug free education as well as positive school climate.
- Contributes to pyramid of intervention process, focusing on success of students.
- Consults with school system in making referrals to community agencies.
- Implements a comprehensive and developmental guidance and counseling curriculum to assist all students.
