This long-term substitute position steps into the daily rhythm of an 8th grade English classroom while the regular teacher is away. The work is steady and relational. Students will continue reading, writing, discussing, and building skills that prepare them for high school. The substitute is trusted to carry forward the course plans, maintain consistent expectations, and provide clear instruction that keeps learning on track.

At Lakeside Middle School, teaching is not done in isolation. The person in this role will work alongside the grade-level team and participate in the professional learning community. Lesson plans and materials will be available, and collaboration with colleagues is part of how the work gets done. Communication with families, maintaining student records, and creating a classroom environment where middle school students feel known and supported are part of the day-to-day responsibility.

This is a temporary role with real impact. It matters to students that their classroom feels stable during a teacher's absence. The long-term substitute helps provide that continuity so students can focus on their growth without disruption.

The annual base salary range for the position is:
Min.$54,243.00 - Max.$. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Nine Mile Educators Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary will be prorated to reflect the number /hours of days worked. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a prorated part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn three (3) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their FTE.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.

The Long Term Substitute is responsible for continuing instruction in 8th grade English Language Arts during a temporary teacher absence. This position maintains established curriculum and classroom routines while working collaboratively with the grade-level team to support student learning and ensure continuity of instruction.
