  • The Emergency Sub Teacher Certificate is issued through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) http:// Follow the instructions below (First‑Time Application for Emergency Sub Teachers) to complete the application process with OSPI.
  • Within the Emergency Sub Certificate application, there is form “District Request for Emergency Substitute Certificate.” CSD cannot add a request until applicant has been cleared to be hired as an emergency sub teacher by the CSD.

  • Claim your District Recommendation on your E‑Cert home page, pay for your certification and then complete your application with OSPI.

Job Description / Essential Functions

This position will involve working as a substitute/on‑call teacher to assist schools on a program‑need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self‑contained and regular‑education settings, recess and performing other job‑related duties as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Qualifications Required
  • Able and available to work Monday‑Friday, hours vary depending on assignment - exceptions will be considered. Earliest assignment at 7:30 a.m.‑2:40 p.m. Must be able to work at various locations as needed.
  • Able to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms.
  • Supervise the care of disabled children, including toileting and other needed responsibilities.
  • Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Show evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
