In this role you will step into ongoing music programs across Lakeside Middle School and Lakeside High School, teaching symphonic band, jazz band, and choir while preparing students for concerts, pep band, and other performances. You will maintain program continuity, support student progress, and engage students with consistent leadership.

Terms of Employment and Salary

Salary range: $55,870.00 – $ (Base range). Salary placement will be at Step 0 unless documentation of experience is provided. Additional details are available in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and district policies.

Benefits:
Eligible for standard benefits for employees working more than 630 hours per year (medical, dental, visual, life insurance, long‑term disability). Eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services for positions with 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months.

Lakeside High School (LHS) and Lakeside Middle School (LMS).

Nature and Scope of Job

The Band and Choir Director will teach symphonic band, jazz band, and choir at Lakeside High School, and 6th grade band and 7th/8th grade band at Lakeside Middle School. Duties include preparing students for Pep Band during football games and preparing all ensembles for concerts.

Primary Job Functions
  • Plan and deliver instrumental and vocal music instruction for assigned classes in alignment with district curriculum.
  • Lead rehearsals, coordinate performances, and support student preparation for concerts and other performance opportunities.
  • Provide basic direction for ensemble performance, including pacing, technique, and group coordination.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for students to grow as musicians through instruction, rehearsal, and performance.
  • Support continuity of the existing music program, including use of established materials, repertoire, and classroom routines.
  • Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction to support learning needs.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management and active supervision of students at all times.
  • Collaborate with Fine Arts colleagues and building staff to support student success and program continuity.
  • Communicate appropriately with students, families, and staff regarding classroom expectations and student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grading, and student performance as required.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of the position.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements
  • Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  • WSP/FBI Clearance.
  • Consistent presence and regular work hours at assigned site.
  • Compliance with all district policies and procedures.
  • Compliance with the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Endorsement in Music (Band and/or Choir) or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching or supporting secondary music programs (grades 9–12).
  • Experience directing or assisting with instrumental and/or vocal ensembles.
  • Familiarity with rehearsal techniques, basic conducting, and ensemble instruction.
  • Ability to maintain continuity of an established program, including following existing lesson plans and routines.
  • Strong classroom management skills in a performance-based setting.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and encourage engagement and participation.
  • Experience working collaboratively with staff in a school setting.

  • Ability to stand, move, and actively engage with students for extended periods.
