READINESS TO LEARN COORDINATOR

Purpose Statement

The Readiness to Learn Coordinator supports students by fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging school environment that promotes academic success and social-emotional well-being. This position helps students overcome barriers to learning through relationship building, skill development, and access to resources. Working closely with students, families, staff, and community partners, the Coordinator provides non-clinical social-emotional support, encourages positive school engagement, and connects students and families with services that promote consistent attendance, readiness to learn, and overall success in school.

The Coordinator also assists in overseeing program implementation, coordinating family engagement initiatives, supporting district attendance and family outreach efforts, and supervising Family Service Advocates.

This job reports to Assistant Superintendent

Functions
    • Build positive, supportive relationships with students to foster trust, belonging, and engagement in school.
    • Provide regular check-ins and check-outs with students to encourage attendance, focus, and readiness to learn.
    • Identify students who may be at risk of disengagement or absenteeism and provide support or referrals to promote student success.
    • Model and teach social-emotional skills such as self-regulation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and empathy.
    • Support students in developing positive peer interactions through small group activities or facilitated discussions.
    • Assist students with de-escalation strategies using calm, trauma-informed approaches; seek additional staff support as needed.
    • Monitor student attendance and engagement; communicate with students and families to support re-engagement when concerns arise.
    • Respond to student safety concerns or emergency situations in coordination with school staff.
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and refer students to licensed staff (counselor, social worker, psychologist) for needs requiring clinical or therapeutic intervention.
    • Build and maintain strong partnerships between home, school, and community organizations.
    • Communicate and collaborate with families to encourage student attendance, engagement, and success.
    • Help remove barriers to learning by connecting students and families with school or community resources (food, clothing, supplies, after school programs, medical or dental services, etc.).
    • Assist with transportation coordination for students and families, and when appropriate transport students or families to appointments, meetings, or community services to ensure access to necessary supports and promote engagement in the educational process.
    • Refer students and families to outside agencies and community services when additional support is needed.
    • Conduct family meetings, workshops, and parent education opportunities to provide guidance and support for families.
    • Coordinate and participate in home visits when appropriate to support communication, engagement, and access to school services.
    • Assist families in understanding school processes, forms, and service applications, and help interpret program requirements or technical information when needed.
    • Maintain and update resource materials for families, including community resource lists and a parent resource library.
    • Foster partnerships with community leaders, organizations, Tribes, and agencies to expand services and resources available to students and families.
    • Monitor student attendance and support efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism.
    • Communicate with students and families regarding attendance concerns and available supports.
    • Assist in planning, coordinating, and supporting program components of the Community Truancy Board (CTB) or similar attendance support processes.
    • Collaborate with schools and community partners to support student re-engagement and improve attendance outcomes.
    • Oversee and support the work of Readiness to Learn Family Service Advocates, including coordination of services, communication, and program implementation.
    • Support implementation of the Readiness to Learn program and assist in coordinating program activities and services.
    • Reinforce positive behavior expectations and celebrate student growth to contribute to a welcoming, supportive school environment.
    • Organize and support school or community activities such as parent meetings, conferences, family engagement events, and training opportunities.
    • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and other staff to promote a safe and inclusive school culture.
