Salary Range$36,476.82 to $54,962.59
Teacher AssistantUnder the general direction of the school principal, and under the immediate supervision of a teacher holding a valid state certificate directly engaged in teaching subject matter or conducting activities, assists in the instruction of pupils and performs related duties as required.
ResponsibilitiesAssists in the supervision of students during lunchroom and playground activities, provides security functions such as monitoring corridors and reviewing student identification cards, supports students in completing classroom assignments, aids teachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying student work, operates photocopying and duplicating machines, maintains orderly arrangement of classrooms, greets and directs visitors, consults with teachers regarding individual student concerns, operates audio-visual equipment, provides tutoring under teacher supervision, assists in collecting and grading homework and examinations, helps supervise loading and unloading of students on school busses, processes new book requests, collects absentee reports and contacts parents, may assist with elementary school wraps, toilet recesses, and may aid in supervising the sale of public transportation passes.
Minimum Qualifications- Certification Requirements
:
Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) obtained after successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit or a paraprofessional exam. - Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
:
Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling, basic mathematics, Chicago Public Schools rules and regulations; ability to work with school‑aged children, follow written and oral instructions, operate basic office equipment, communicate effectively with the public, and possess strong oral, written, and reading communication skills. - Physical Requirements
:
Light work; may exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally or up to ten pounds frequently, light walking or standing required.
