General Description

The responsibilities of the middle school Math & Science teacher are to work in a collaborative team teaching environment; to establish, plan and develop personalized, in-depth, active learning experiences that meet district and state and common core standards for assigned academic areas; to deliver effective instruction and facilitate student learning; to promote achievement for all students; to assess and evaluate student performance and progress to enhance learning;

and to provide guidance, support, and supervision in the development of respectful, responsible students.

Professional Qualifications

* Baccalaureate degree and valid teacher's certification for the State of Washington required.

* K-8 Elementary or Mathematics and/or Science endorsement(s) required

* Genuine interest in teaching and working with middle school children.

* Prior teaching experience in middle school preferred.

* Ability to learn and implement new instructional strategies

* Knowledge of active inquiry and project-based learning.

* Knowledge and application of effective formative and summative classroom assessment practice

* Knowledge and application of Common Core Standards in math and science.

* Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative member of an effective interdisciplinary team.

* Knowledge and effective use of technology in the classroom

* Demonstrated proficiency in effective communication and organizational skills

* Knowledge of effective instructional and behavioral techniques

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators, and the public.

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Collaboratively plan a program of study with an interdisciplinary team that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

* Teach in a flexible block schedule.

* Create positive personalized learning atmosphere to encourage and motivate all students to learn essential skills, develop essential attitudes and experience successful learning.

* Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district curriculum and establish clear learning targets.

* Use school and district guidelines for assessment of student learning for all lessons, units, and projects.

* Maintain effective, positive communication with students, parents, staff, and administration.

Salary & Benefits

* The salary range is based upon the  salary schedule.

* Benefits in accordance with the SEBB/Health Care Authority (Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life insurance)

* For qualifying positions, employees are offered enrollment with the Washington State Retirement Plan
