Help 6th Grade Students Build Confidence in Math and Middle School
Sixth grade is a big change. Students are figuring out new routines, new teachers, and what it feels like to belong in a middle school. Math is part of that adjustment. Some students come in confident. Some are already carrying the idea that math is not for them. A steady teacher can make a real difference in how they see the subject and how they see themselves as learners.
At Lakeside Middle School, this position is part of a sixth-grade team that focuses on that transition. The teacher in this role will teach sixth grade math, build trust with students, and work with colleagues who share responsibility for helping students succeed. The work is about strong instruction, but it is also about noticing when a student needs another explanation, a different approach, or a little more time to believe they can do the work.
This is a good fit for an educator who enjoys sixth graders and understands that progress is not always neat. The teacher will be trusted to plan carefully, reflect on what students are showing, and adjust instruction when needed. In this role, the classroom becomes one of the places where students learn math, practice responsibility, and start to feel more at home in middle school.

Salary placement is outlined in the Nine Mile Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based on education, including degree and eligible credits/clock hours, and verified experience. Salary will be prorated based on FTE and assignment.
Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed for less than a full term shall be entitled to a prorated part of the sick leave allowance. Each employee shall earn three (3) annual leave days per year. Employees with less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their FTE.
Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
