POSITION TITLE: English Language Arts Teacher, High School
Classification: Certificated, Non‑Supervisory; FLSA Exempt
Representation: Representation available by the Wahluke Education Association
Work Schedule: As per Wahluke Education Association Agreement
Terms of Employment: Wahluke Certified staff receive a 5.5% Professional Learning Activity Stipend;
Up to 8 additional compensated work days;
Professional Development Funds;
Longevity Stipends beginning in fifth year of teaching.

Classes that will be taught include, but are not limited to:
American Literature, reading, British Literature, and writing. Candidates who are knowledgeable in SIOP, GLAD, ELL, and the writing process may receive priority consideration, and candidates who are bilingual and/or biliterate in Spanish may receive preference at the time of screening.
Provide instruction using different modes including, but not limited to, on‑site and remote. Integrate English Learner strategies. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.
Qualifications- Must hold proper state certification or be able to obtain certification.
- Endorsement in English and/or Language Arts or similar endorsement.
- Additional endorsement in Reading helpful, or coursework and evidence of understanding of reading instruction.
- Endorsement, training, and experience in English Language Learner instructional strategies helpful.
- Understanding and knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.
- Knowledge and training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, AVID, and/or CHAMPS programs preferred.
- Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery as well as student learning.
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Provide for individual differences in the learning needs of students, and create a classroom climate based on mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency ensuring that every child has an equitable opportunity for success.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education).
- Knowledge of training in PBIS, AVID, Safe & Civil Schools, Character Strong, and trauma‑informed practices preferred.
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations and building practices and procedures.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Willingness and ability to attend trainings/meetings that may include overnight travel.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education.
- Stay abreast of content area knowledge and best practice.
