Port Susan Middle School is seeking an assistant principal who is a strong instructional leader, and understands the importance of student learning, effective instruction, and empowering infrastructure.

The assistant principal functions as an instructional leader first. This includes bringing our Educational Equity policy to life in our schools. Also required are school improvement and annual action planning, ensuring high-quality instruction, providing ongoing professional development, constructive feedback, and more. School assistant principals also perform administrative duties, including the supervision and evaluation of staff, coordination of the instructional program, maintaining responsibility for other administrative duties as assigned, and promoting the educational development of each student.

This person will also work with district administration to articulate the district's strategic plan and provide visionary leadership necessary to attain goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

* Assist the principal in the general administration of the school, and serve as principal when the principal is absent

* Assist in maintaining accurate records regarding the progress of students through report cards, discipline referrals, attendance records and conferences

* Assist in establishing and overseeing School Crisis Management Plan

* Supervise and evaluate assigned staff as directed by building principal

* Implement board policies and collective bargaining agreement provisions applicable to the middle school

* Maintain adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations and laws

* Supervise student conduct and assume responsibility for the enforcement of discipline as necessary providing due process for the rights of students

* Serve as building athletic director to include planning, scheduling, coordinating, and supervising PSMS athletics, activities, and other events.

* Administer student attendance policy and procedures

* As requested, act as the principal's designee for special education conferences, Section 504 conferences, and intervention proceedings

* Establish and maintain effective communication with the community, parents, staff and students

* Participate in district-level decision making and planning as a member of the building and district administrative teams

* Provide leadership to create a school culture that promotes on-going improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff

* Assist in leading the school improvement planning and implementation

* Work collaboratively with other administrators to develop and maintain positive building climate

* Assist in the supervision of extra-curricular activities

* Assist in coordination of school safety

* Assist in coordinating all state testing

* Observe strict confidentiality with student and personnel information

* Assist the principal in responding to calls from the district's security company

* Job presence
