Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Major Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate student needs, design comprehensive programming, and unify student support services.
  • Deliver individualized academic, social, and life skills instruction for both students who need intensive, self-contained (DI) special education services and resource (push-in/pull-out) special education services.
  • Adapt district curricula to meet diverse student needs under all federal disability categories and within a tiered, MTSS framework.
  • Actively participate as an essential member of the building MTSS team to look at school-wide data, identify students at risk, and recommend interventions.
  • Monitor and schedule a team of instructional Paraeducators who support special education and intervention students to ensure fidelity in Tier 2/3 and special education interventions.
  • Partner with general education teams to facilitate student inclusion and ensure accommodation compliance across all school environments including recess, PE, specials and academic content areas.
  • Create Positive Behavior Support Plans for students. Implement and provide input on Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) using positive behavior strategies.
  • Plan, author, and manage legally compliant IEPs, tracking academic, behavioral, and transitional progress.
  • Maintain strict compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations and Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) governing special education practices, timelines, and student rights.
  • Consistently attend and contribute to all mandatory meetings, including building staff meetings, special education team meetings, and professional learning communities.
  • Coordinate and assist with the seamless transitions of students on IEPs between buildings, grade levels, or special education programs to ensure continuity of services.
  • Maintain rigorous individual student progress data to guide interventions and generate required quarterly progress reports.
  • Consult regularly with parents, general education staff, and outside agencies (as needed) to coordinate care and report student growth.
  • Maintain the mobility required to safely support students school-wide and assist medically fragile students under nursing direction.
  • Align daily teaching practices with district philosophies while actively pursuing continuing education and workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • Must possess an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
  • Preference given to those with experience in Special Education working with students with behavioral, cognitive, academic, and adaptive needs.
  • Preference given to those with experience working with at‑risk and behaviorally disabled students.
  • Preference given to those applicants with IEP ON‑LINE experience.
  • Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in communicating with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Demonstrated success by training/experience which recognizes all children as learners.
  • Preference given for having current high quality references.
  • Must submit a complete application packet.
Terms of Employment
  • Salary Range: $52,690.00 - $ per year; placement based on experience and level of education.
  • Length of

    Contract:

    This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract beginning with the  school year (0.8 Elementary Special Education Teacher / 0.2 Intervention Teacher); 182 days plus professional development.
  • Leaves/Benefits:
    Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year; additional benefits may include sick leave, personal days, and holidays.
