Position Summary

The Migrant/Multilingual Para educator works under the supervision and direction of the Multilingual Learner (ML) Specialist and/or other certificated staff to provide targeted Tier 2 instructional support for identified migrant and multilingual learners in Kindergarten through 5th grade, with a primary focus on language development and mathematics intervention.

This position supports students in developing academic language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening while reinforcing grade‑level learning and increasing student access to classroom instruction. The para educator works collaboratively with classroom teachers and support staff to implement instructional strategies, monitor student progress, and provide small‑group and individualized intervention aligned to student needs.

The successful candidate is a collaborative, student‑centered professional with strong organizational skills, experience working with small groups, and knowledge of effective language acquisition and instructional support strategies. The para educator is expected to independently prepare instructional materials, plan supplemental activities aligned to teacher direction and student goals, and foster positive relationships with students and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted Tier 2 instructional support in language development and mathematics to identified migrant and multilingual learners under the guidance of certificated staff.
  • Support students in developing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through structured language practice and academic intervention activities.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce classroom instruction and support academic growth.
  • Collaborate regularly with the ML Specialist, classroom teachers, intervention staff, and administrators to identify student needs and support instructional goals.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and communicating observations related to academic performance, engagement, and language development.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials, intervention activities, and learning supports aligned to lesson objectives and student needs.
  • Implement instructional strategies that support multilingual learners, including language scaffolds, vocabulary development, structured student talk, and comprehension support.
  • Support classroom learning environments that are culturally responsive, inclusive, and student‑centered.
  • Assist students in accessing instructional materials, assignments, and learning activities.
  • Support positive student behavior and engagement during instructional and school activities.
  • Assist certificated staff with assessments, progress monitoring, data collection, and record keeping as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and district records.
  • Participate in professional development related to multilingual learner instruction, intervention practices, and student support strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of district and program goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of college coursework, AA degree preferred or passing score on approved para educator assessment required.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred; bilingual and biliterate skills strongly desired.
  • Required to complete the State Fundamental Course of Study for para educators and maintain required para educator certification requirements.
  • Experience working with children or students in an educational setting preferred.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners, migrant students, or diverse student populations preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff while also working independently with students and small groups.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies that support language development and academic intervention preferred.
  • Experience facilitating small‑group instruction and reinforcing academic skills preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
