Basic Functions

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides work experience, job readiness skills, and training needed to gain full‑time employment. Youth accepted into the SYEP are temporary employees as provided for under the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation’s Employee Personnel Manual (EPM).

Employees will work up to a maximum of 200 hours during the five‑week program. The SYEP will pay a minimum wage not to exceed a total of 40‑hour work week within the five‑week program. Employment beyond the maximum requirements may be extended, but the SYEP shall not pay for costs resulting from that extension.

Qualifications
  • Must be a high school student ages 14‑18 on the first day of employment.
  • Provide proof of certification of Indian Blood, birth certificate, Social Security card, state , school , or license.
  • Must attend workshops to participate; application form will be available during workshops.
  • Must be age 14–18 on or before start date (07.07.2026).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance (if required of this position).
  • Position may be subject to pre‑employment drug testing, reasonable‑suspicion testing, and post‑accident testing.
  • Position may be subject to pre‑employment background clearances; clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
Preference

Follow the Colville Tribe’s Indian Preference in Hiring Policy;
Preference is given to high‑school juniors and seniors, tribal members, and honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified.
