Position: Ocosta - Jr./Sr. High School Principal
Location: Westport

The Ocosta School District is seeking qualified applicants for the Principalship at Ocosta Jr./Sr. High School.

We are seeking an administrator who is visionary, student-centered, visible, collaborative, and committed to building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. The principal is responsible for leading the development and continuous improvement of a high-quality instructional program while fostering a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for all students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional leadership, excellent communication skills, integrity, transparency, and a commitment to supporting the unique traditions and culture of a small coastal community. The principal shall report directly to the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Educational Administration or related field.
  • Valid Washington State Principal Credential or ability to obtain.
  • Successful teaching and administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people in a leadership capacity.
  • Evidence of experience and training needed to perform the functions described in the job description.
  • Demonstrated experience developing a positive school culture that supports student achievement, engagement, and belonging.
  • Experience implementing curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices that improve student learning.
  • Experience in facilitating Professional Learning Communities, using essential standards and common formative assessments to increase student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience building positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, honestly, and transparently with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Prior experience designing and implementing a secondary master schedule preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing research-based best practices that prepare students for college, careers, military service, and post‑secondary opportunities.
  • Experience at the secondary level is preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership
  • Articulate and support the mission, vision, core principles, and policies of the Ocosta School District.
  • Lead by example.
  • Articulate and model high expectations while motivating others to achieve high levels of performance.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and community members to improve student learning using data, sound judgment, best practices, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the school and community.
  • Foster a positive school culture where students feel connected, supported, and valued.
  • Distribute leadership by utilizing and developing the talents of staff members while recognizing their professionalism and contributions.
Instruction and the Learning Environment
  • Lead a collaborative process for the development and implementation of a comprehensive secondary master schedule.
  • Provide support and resources to school staff to employ effective instructional strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assist staff in using data to guide, modify, and improve classroom teaching and learning.
  • Foster growth, creativity, innovation, and flexibility among staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional practices, graduation requirements, assessment systems, and educational initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of technology as an essential learning tool in the classroom and overall instructional program.
  • Provide a variety of opportunities for student involvement in clubs, leadership, government, co‑curricular, and extracurricular activities.
  • Use data to know learners, monitor progress, establish targets, and determine next steps to improve instructional practice and student learning.
  • Ensure that every student has access to meaningful opportunities for success and achievement.
Student Culture and Climate
  • Build positive relationships with students through regular interaction, visibility, and engagement.
  • Promote school spirit, student leadership, and traditions that contribute to a strong school culture.
