Description: The Para educator under direct supervision of the teacher and building principal will assist the classroom teacher in providing instruction and supervision of developmentally delayed, basic education, and Title I pre‑school‑age children in a variety of instructional and non‑instructional settings.

Qualifications:
- Equivalent to two years of college or willingness to take and pass a competency test.
- Proficient or willing to learn computer skills and keyboarding.

Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish/English.
- Willingness or desire to work with children with developmental delays.
- Willing to obtain a Food Handlers Permit.
- Willing to be trained to use health‑related aids/assistive technology (feeding tube, voice‑activated devices).
- Demonstrate responsible behavior and independent work habits.
Reports To: The integrated preschool teacher and the special education director/building principal.
Supervises: None.
Responsibilities:
- Relate positively with children, supervisory staff, parents, and other teachers (team player).
- Work with children 1:1, or in small groups, as directed by the teacher.
- Make home visits with the teacher and act as an interpreter when necessary.
- Assist in developmental screens, evaluations, and meetings with parents and staff.
- Work patiently and calmly with students who exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Assist with student hygiene (diaper changes, toileting).
- Assist preschool and other elementary students on the non‑preschool day as needed per Title I plan.
- Supervise students in the classroom, playground, lunchroom, and escort when necessary.
- Serve as a good role model.
- Reinforce the teacher’s directions, activities, or skills to be practiced.
- Perform other duties requested by classroom teachers or principals concerning special‑education students.
- Remain confidential regarding school matters such as paperwork, student conduct, and family matters.
Working Conditions: The work area is multiple locations depending on student needs. Assistance includes educational needs, preparation and maintenance of materials, supervision, escorting, and reinforcement of the teacher’s directions. Assignments may change with student needs.

Evaluation: Consistent with state and district requirements.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Must lift/move up to 25 pounds, assist restraining heavier students when required. Frequently sit, lift, carry, move, hear, speak, and perform extensive computer work. Requires clear vision, moderate noise levels. May work in outdoor weather, be exposed to wet conditions, chemicals, and potential infectious materials. Travel in school vehicles may be required.
