Position: School Psychologist
The School Psychologist is trained in both psychology and educational learning processes and applies research‑based principles of learning and behavior to support student success. This position focuses on the identification and diagnosis of learning, behavioral, and adjustment concerns for students ages 3 through 22, and recommends appropriate placements and interventions. The psychologist collaborates with special and general education staff, families, and community partners to guide program development, promote effective instructional practices, and support positive student outcomes across educational settings.
Responsibilities- Provide informational/consultative services to enhance students’ ability to benefit from their educational program, including placement and intervention strategies.
- Lead meetings required under district regulations, state guidelines, and federal regulations, recommending and communicating a course of interventions specific to the diagnosed disorder to all relevant IEP team members.
- Evaluate students referred for special services in the context of an educational model at the assigned school(s) to assist in establishing an IEP as appropriate.
- Document student deficits and their impact on educational performance, including parent interviews, to provide appropriate services.
- Work collaboratively with building, district, and outside agency teams to develop and implement support systems such as behavior management, discipline, motivation, and learning styles.
- Analyze collected data to recommend and assist in implementing appropriate techniques, interventions, and interactions with building staff.
- Coordinate reevaluation procedures necessary to change the placement of a student receiving special services, including referrals to support services to meet IEP goals.
- Provide individual and group professional development on therapeutic topics and strategies as needed.
- Act as a liaison for the implementation of therapies, maintaining communication between the building principal, teachers, and special services staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) process and collaborate with the IEP team during the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) writing process.
- Assist principals with behavior management and specialized curriculum design; administer FBAs and plan BIPs to support student success.
- Facilitate the Manifestation Determination process and meeting, completing required documentation and notifications.
- Maintain all required physical and electronic paperwork to ensure compliance with records retention guidelines.
- Initiate and coordinate the transmittal of records to appropriate parents, guardians, and staff to ensure compliance with records retention guidelines.
- Attend staff and other professional meetings as assigned.
- Connect building staff to resources required to implement special services and interventions for student learning success.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and district staff, ensuring that due process rights are explained in the family’s native language.
- Master’s degree or higher in Psychology.
- State of Washington ESA Certification.
- Experience in a similar position.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills.
- Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
- Ability to work with students with disabilities from birth to age 21.
- Comfortable using computers and technology.
- Self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Strong “services” or “customer” orientation.
