Job Summary
The job of Physical Education Teacher was established for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Plan, implement and evaluate classroom instructional activities consistent with building and adopted district policies.
- Diagnose and prescribe learning and training programs for individual pupils based on student aptitude.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to provide equity and excellence to students of all ability levels.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement the applicable academic learning objectives.
- Ability to foster an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students. Be able to plan an instructional program designed to meet individual students’ needs and whole groups which may include at‑risk or special needs students.
- Experience with numerous assessment tools, and the ability to use data to drive instruction.
- Assess and evaluate students regularly using appropriate methods and instruments and keeping appropriate and accurate records.
- Use necessary and appropriate instructional methods, techniques, and comply with all state and federal laws regarding the instruction and supervision of children.
- Meet with parents for parent/teacher conferences as necessary.
- Display a commitment to the education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development projects, district or building‑level committees, and professional organizations.
- Ability to work in partnership with parents, staff, students, and the community to provide student centered learning.
- Ability to incorporate technology into the curriculum. Computer/technology experience and competence required.
- Experience working with other staff members to accomplish common goals and to develop appropriate instruction.
- Confer and communicate with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, in an open and positive manner to provide guidance, evaluation and encouragement of students.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Health and Fitness required; additional K‑8 preferred.
- Demonstrated success in effective physical education teaching practices.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with peers.
- Experience working with elementary school students.
- Understanding and knowledge of elementary school aged students.
- Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds)
- Carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling
- Significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting
