Job SummaryThe Library Information Technology Specialist is a Teacher‑Librarian who supports academic rigor by integrating the teaching of research and information processing skills to ensure students are college ready, workforce ready, and effective lifelong users of information. The teacher‑librarian may work in more than one building; locations to be determined.
Essential Functions- Provide information literacy instruction using relevant resources.
- Work with the library para educator in secondary (middle and high school) buildings to support collection development and purchasing tasks.
- Assist with the development and implementation of district curriculum initiatives and the use of emerging technologies as a critical member of instructional teams.
- Collaborate with grade‑level teams and work with the district library team to develop consistent policies, instruction, and resources.
- Encourage the use of instructional technology to increase proficiency and improve learning, utilizing access to digital information resources.
- Design creative teaching techniques that empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
- Provide instructional support with the implementation of ELA standards and district initiatives.
- Develop strategies for instructing students in the use and evaluation of information from both print and electronic sources.
- Design library space to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and effective users of information.
- Provide input as part of the library team to create and maintain a balanced, carefully selected, and systematically organized collection of library resources that is consistent across the district.
- Collaborate effectively with the library team to develop a district library program that responds to curricular and instructional needs consistently throughout the district.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
- Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) as required by law and regulation, or ability to obtain said certificate.
- Library Science Endorsement preferred.
- Understand and effectively use and share new technologies with students and staff.
- Knowledgeable of information literacy learning standards.
- Knowledgeable of current trends in instructional technology.
- Demonstrate the ability to support ELA skills using fiction and nonfiction text in a variety of formats.
- Possess the ability to lead teachers and staff in the implementation of new technologies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current assessment tools.
- Model a sense of humor and a positive approach.
- Communicate positively and effectively with diverse groups.
- Pre‑plan and adapt quickly when needed.
- Participate in library/technology related learning communities (physical and online).
- High skill level in technology as it relates to STEM education (preferred).
The salary range for teachers in the Mead School District is between $59,323.50 and $per school year. Placement is defined within the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of education and experience. Additional compensation may be available within the CBA.
Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year and 5 days of annual leave per year; prorated for part‑time positions.
Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year are eligible for benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
