Position Title: Para Pro / Instructional Assistant for Summer Learning Program
Report To: Summer School Coordinator
Classification: PSE Union Represented Position, FLSA Non-Supervisory, Non-Exempt
Compensation: PSE Salary Schedule for Instructional Para Pro (Paid by time card submitted by the 10th of each month)

Hours of Operation: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday–Thursday (shift times staggered to accommodate length of work day)
Duties and Responsibilities- Tutor students individually or in small groups.
- Conference with the supervising teacher to monitor student progress.
- Assist in compiling test data and keep required documentation and records.
- Complete required records in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress in classroom and other school activities.
- Proctor tests, quizzes, drills and other exercises designed by instructional staff.
- Use computer and software skills to enter and access a variety of student records; may provide virtual and distance learning.
- Communicate respectfully, friendly, and helpfully with parents as requested or assigned; communications about a student’s educational performance and progress remain with the instructor.
- Aid students with special learning needs.
- Assist students with clothing, movement, toilet usage, diapering, personal hygiene, and overall custodial care.
- Assist staff in developing teaching aids and materials.
- Supervise students in halls, study halls, libraries, playgrounds, learning centers, cafeterias, transportation areas, and crossing guard area; includes work outside in all types of weather.
- Assist in organizing and monitoring recreational activities.
- Accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
- Perform basic clerical tasks for teachers (catalog, sort, file, assemble, reproduce, and distribute classroom materials; check out equipment).
- Attend and participate in trainings during and outside of regular shift; may require travel.
- Provide social and emotional care of all students.
- Provide attention to the needs of disabled or handicapped students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills, able to relate to students and adults, flexibility.
- Experience and/or knowledge of language development, reading, and math instructional strategies.
- History of reliability, dependability, and punctuality.
- Professional appearance and demeanor; able to model appropriate professional behavior.
- Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and handle situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to maneuver for tasks such as kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting, and other physical demands; expected to wear safe attire and grooming for the learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively, civically, and respectfully with coworkers, students, families, and community.
- Preference for candidates available for the entire length of assignment.
- Passing required State and FBI background checks.
- Ability to attend work as scheduled.
- Bilingual, bi‑literate Spanish preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer skills.
- Positive attitude.
Must meet state/federal guidelines for Instructional Assistants by having an AA degree or 72 quarter hours, 48 semester college credits, or documentation of successfully passing the state‑approved assessment.
Physical RequirementsThis position typically requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium work: absorbable lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly; may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noise.
