The O n e-o n-One Aide, under t h e d rection of the Yo u th Program Coo rd inator and Youth Pr og r a m Manager, will provide opportunities to e n h a n ce individual growth and deve l opme n t a nd build upon the sense of se lf- esteem fo r a chi ld with s p ec ial n eeds du ri ng the Su m m e r Youth Progra m.
This position i s r es pon s ible for support i n g a c hi d with specia l needs, engagin g in other activities t h at a re associate d w i th the c ircle of well ness, improving cu l tu r e identity prov i d i n g a n ti - substa nce ab u se programs, improving academic ac hi eve m e nt and promoting youth l ea d ersh i p r oles .
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Accompany the student throughout the duration of the Summer Youth Program.
- Advise, help and tutor the student.
- Participate in all activities with the student.
- Teach the student to anticipate difficult situations and deal with them.
- Create opportunities to provide the student with positive attention.
- Work with Youth Department staff to assure the success of the student.
- Act as a companion for the assigned student.
- Serve as a role model for the student.
- Plan and follow directions.
- Maintain excellent conflict‑resolution skills and be able to diplomatically handle confrontation.
- Assist in guiding the child’s behavior using a positive and consistent style.
- Carry out first aid and emergency procedures when required.
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to this child’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
As the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well‑being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time.
Such duties may or may not be related to regular responsibilities.
Preference- Indian Preference Policy applies to this and all positions with the Noo k sack Indian Tribe.
The following qualifications are required to be considered for the position.
Required Education, Experience and Training for Position- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with children in group situations, good communication skills, and high degree of flexibility.
- Experience in program planning for children with special needs.
- Ability to adapt activities to meet the needs of the child.
- Competent in Microsoft Office.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass an alcohol/drug test at the time of hire and throughout employment.
- Must pass a criminal background check at the time of hire and periodically thereafter.
- Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe.
- Certified in basic First Aid/CPR and blood‑borne pathogens before or during summer program orientation.
- Frequently required to sit, talk and hear.
- Required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time.
The following qualifications are preferred or helpful for the incumbent to be considered for this position.
Paraprofessional or Experience Working in Social Work, Education, Program Planning or Related FieldFurther relevant qualifications and experiences may be considered by the hiring authority.
