Position Summary
The Athletic Director (AD) provides leadership and oversight of the school's interscholastic athletic programs September - August. This includes supervision of coaches, coordination of sports schedules, budget management, and ensuring compliance with WIAA regulations. The AD plays a vital role in promoting school spirit, student engagement, academic achievement, equity, and community involvement through a safe and inclusive athletics program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop, organize, and manage all school athletic programs (grades 6-12).
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and sportsmanlike culture across all teams and events.
* Provide leadership, direction, and vision for all athletic programs.
* Ensure full compliance with WIAA, league, district, and school policies and procedures.
* Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and support all coaches, ensuring adherence to professional and ethical standards.
* Develop and manage the athletics budget, including fundraising, purchasing, and inventory control.
* Coordinate practice and game schedules, facility use, transportation, and supervision for home and away events.
* Promote and ensure Title IX compliance and equitable access to athletics for all students.
* Serve as a liaison between school, families, community, officials, and other ADs.
* Attend WIAA rules clinics and required league meetings.
* Oversee the maintenance and safety of athletic facilities and equipment.
* Ensure timely and accurate communication with stakeholders regarding schedules, policies, and procedures.
* Promote sportsmanship, student leadership, and academic accountability for student-athletes.
* Participate in school-wide leadership and planning activities as a collaborative member of the school leadership team
Qualifications:
* Previous experience in coaching or athletic administration.
* Thorough knowledge of WIAA rules and regulations.
* Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
* Current First Aid/CPR and WIAA coaching certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Valid Washington State Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, families, and community members.
* Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
* Collaborative and flexible leadership style.
* Passion for supporting student-athletes' growth both on and off the field.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Education, Sports Management, or related field.
* Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate (or administrative credential preferred).
* 3+ years of successful coaching experience at the secondary level.
* Deep knowledge of WIAA rules, regulations, and compliance expectations.
* Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, personnel, and equipment efficiently.
* Experience fostering inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive athletic programs.
* Fingerprint and background clearance in compliance with Washington State law.
* Experience in a rural school setting or small-school athletic program.
* Familiarity with online scheduling platforms (e.g., Arbiter Sports, Final Forms, Family )
* Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and the academic success of student-athletes.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are an asset.
Working Conditions:
* Requires frequent evening and weekend work.
* Involves indoor and outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions.
* May require lifting of athletic equipment and supplies.
