Position Hours and Pay

This position is for 7 hours per day, 4 days per week for the first year, then 2 days per week thereafter until certification is completed.

Hours also include 4 hours per day at 164 days per year and 2 hours for 14 days.

Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 – $24.76 (25-26 PSE Salary Schedule).

The hire date is based on School Board approval and may change without notice. Contact HR with any questions.

Certification Requirements

Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and the General Para educator Certificate of the state‑mandated Para educator Certificate Program. The program is dependent on state funding.

Federal Minimum Employment Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Hold high school diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment
    • AA degree or higher
    • Earned seventy‑two (72) quarter credits or forty‑eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution
    • Completion of a registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
    • Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
Responsibilities
  • Instruct students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities
  • Communicate with certificated staff concerning student progress and adjust methods to meet diverse needs
  • Assist teacher in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments and other documentation
  • Supervise student behavior in classrooms, playgrounds, halls, lunchrooms and other school areas
  • Assist students with interpersonal and personal skill mastery
  • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents and the public regarding student progress and safety
  • Monitor need for first aid and refer for treatment as appropriate
  • Alert qualified district staff to student problems
  • Prepare and modify instructional materials under direction of certificated staff
  • Operate office equipment and prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials
  • Coordinate parent volunteer programs as requested
  • Maintain the physical appearance of classroom and other assigned areas
  • Serve on district committees or departmental work teams as required
  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the school principal and receives guidance from the assigned program administrator and teacher.

Mental Demands

May experience frequent interruptions, shifting tasks and priorities, and must handle a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities.

Physical Demands

Potential exposure to ordinary infectious diseases, student noise levels, and outdoor work in inclement weather during playground supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working with school‑aged children and instructional experience preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in designated academic subjects may be required.

Licenses and

Special Requirements

Requires fingerprinting and background check. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan.
