Job DescriptionMabton High School Assistant Volleyball Coach. Primary function is to help students develop skills and knowledge with the district's athletic handbook and goals that will contribute to the students' development as mature, able, and responsible adults.
Responsibilities- Serve as a positive role model to the athletes and parents.
- Teach volleyball techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics.
- Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength, and agility.
- Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and meets.
- Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic, and responsibility to one's team.
- Monitor athletes' personal conduct during games.
- Manage equipment and playing facilities responsibly.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Hold a valid first aid/CPR/AED card to comply with district policy and procedures.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the sport.
- Coaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrate interest in and ability to work well with multicultural high school students, staff, and community.
- Promote the sport within WIAA guidelines, complete all required WIAA coaches clinics and related requirements.
- Inventory, select, care for, and maintain equipment and playing surfaces.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the Athletic Director and School Administration.
- Exhibit cultural competency; ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Be neat, orderly, and honest.
- Work weekdays; practice after school.
- Interpret policies and procedures.
- Travel with teams for matches during the week.
- Work with people of all ages.
- Work outdoors on a continuous basis, sometimes traveling to various off-site locations; may be exposed to dust, noise, hard surfaces, and varying temperature conditions.
- Ability to work well with children of various ages; basic knowledge of volleyball.
- Willingness to learn and follow district rules and guidelines regarding youth sports.
- Prior coaching experience helpful, but not required.
- Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
- Previous experience coaching children in some type of sport.
- Formal or informal education or training ensuring the ability to read and write at the required level for coaching.
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Complete Washington State Patrol criminal history background check.
- Requires dealing with a wide range of student, staff, and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner.
- May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
- Physical capabilities require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity.
- Approximately 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
- Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
