Special Education Para educator – Dayton Elementary (2026‑2027)
We are recruiting for a Special Education Para educator to serve Dayton Elementary for the school year. This position is 32.5 hours per week, school year schedule. Start date will be August 2026.
General ResponsibilitiesReporting directly to the Special Education Teacher, the Special Education Para educator supports and assists students with disabilities in various school settings. Responsibilities include lesson plan preparation, one‑on‑one and small group instruction, classroom management, student observation and assessment, and communication with parents and staff.
SalaryThe full salary range for this position is $21.27 – $26.31 per hour. Offers are made at the beginning of the range.
Essential Functions- Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation, instruction, classroom management, observation and assessment, and communication.
- Supervise students.
- Collect data and report student progress.
- Maintain accurate data collection records.
- Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
- Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
- Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service programs, workshops and seminars.
- Participate as a member of the education team and may attend parent conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Classroom setting, may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
- Provide assistance with the physical needs of students, including tube feeding, catheterization, diaper changing, toileting.
- Sit, stand and stoop to attend to student's needs and provide instruction.
- Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
- Travel within ESD 112 region for meetings and trainings.
Qualifications & Skills
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- Associate’s Degree
- 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university
- Passing score of 455 on the Para Pro Assessment
- Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
- 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
- Experience in a special education classroom setting (preferred).
- Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities (preferred).
