Job Description

Starting Date: Immediately

POSITION: Para Educator - Level I

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Provide small group instruction to at‑risk students. Supervise students during recess and lunch times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • Associate of Arts Degree, 2 years of college credits, or Para Educator Praxis
  • Preferred office experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a student centered, organized positive climate
  • Read, write and communicate effectively
  • Communicate and respond effectively and in a friendly, professional manner with students, parents, community members, and school personnel
  • Accept responsibility and take direction
  • Work collaboratively and collegially
  • Comply with district rules and regulations
  • Conduct all work in a safe manner as specified by district rules
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Plan, instruct, and supervise elementary age students
  • Work one‑on‑one or in a small group with highly at‑risk middle/high school students
  • Provide support, assistance and give specific instruction under the direction of a certified LAP Director
  • Skilled at record keeping and computers
  • Monitor students both in and out the classroom

STATE/DISTRICT MANDATED REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED card or ability to attain one
  • Fingerprinting (paid by employee)
  • Proof of immunization (if born 1‑1‑57 or later)
  • I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform Act
  • HIV/HBV Training (district provided)
  • Sexual Harassment Training (district provided)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • 180 days per year
  • 6 hours per day
  • Salary (DOE)
