Job DescriptionThis position is a long‑term substitute for the 26/27 school year at Columbia Elementary School, Burbank, Washington.
Responsibilities- Provide instructional and educational experiences for students aged four to five.
- Work with students who may have developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, health impairments, behavior disorders, learning disabilities or multiple handicapping conditions.
- Cooperate with the grade‑level team to develop curriculum and assessment strategies aligned with building and district goals.
- Provide appropriate assessment of developmental and academic skills in the preschool setting.
- Participate in Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings.
- Implement appropriate programs in collaboration with Guidance Team members.
- Deliver on goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
- Maintain required records and facilitate necessary paperwork and forms as required by law and district policy.
- Assume responsibility for efficient use of a classroom para educator, if available.
- Collaborate successfully with a Special Education Teacher in an inclusive setting.
- Provide opportunities for peer interaction with students of varying abilities, as appropriate.
- Be flexible to the demands of the position.
- Work with students in an enthusiastic, supportive, and consistent manner.
- Experience with computers, interactive whiteboard, and Google Classroom preferred (not required).
- Successful experience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
- Adhere to and maintain confidentiality per law and district policy.
- Communicate effectively, in writing and orally, in a timely manner with staff, parents, students, and community organizations.
- Meet the physical needs of young students, including assistance with medical devices.
- Willingness to participate in extra‑curricular assignments and activities.
- Current Washington State Teacher’s Certificate appropriate for preschool.
- Background in basic education in early childhood development (cognitive, adaptive, social, communication, motor).
- Documented preschool/elementary teaching experience with excellent evaluations.
- Demonstrated success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participation in team‑teaching situations.
- Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels, emphasizing individual learning styles.
- Maintains a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom and with parents and colleagues.
- Demonstrated leadership in professional activities related to education.
- Physical stamina as required to work effectively with elementary‑aged students.
- Punctual and consistent attendance.
- Collaboration at grade level, building, and district.
- Work for the best interest of the student and their parents/guardians.
- Conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills to meet student and program needs.
- Belief that all students can learn and succeed.
- Supportive and active in implementing building and district goals and improvement efforts.
Mobility: Regularly stand and walk for prolonged periods, push or pull 18‑26 lbs., sit, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, use hands to type, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arm.
Sense: Talk/hear conversations and other sounds; communicate effectively in person and over the telephone; taste and smell; require near, far, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: Lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; lift overhead; may need to move quickly in emergencies or while supervising students.
Work Environment: Work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures from
-10°F to 100°F+; possible exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; noise level moderate.
Physical Hazards: Work outdoors in varied temperatures; exposure to wet/humid conditions; moderate noise.
