2026 - 2027 School Year

TITLE:

Career and Technical Education Teacher in Family and Consumer Science

Continuing 1.0 FTE

Reports To:

Building Principal and Career and Technical Education Director

Essential Functions for CTE:

Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State. Standards include:

* Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development

* Lead and/or participate in CTE advisory committee meetings

* Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences

* Articulation of classes with post-secondary education

* Develop and maintain business partnerships

* Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning

* Provide extended learning activities for students

* Willingness to accept extra-curricular assignment, including student leadership organizations such as Skills USA or FCCLA

* Write and update timely and as needed CTE curriculum frameworks approved by the State OSPI office

* Promote integration of academic skills and specific CTE curriculum for relevant career preparation

* Cooperate as a professional team member on both the building and district level

* Learn and infuse emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment

Essential Functions Continued:

* Maintain effective student management in a non-coercive, positive environment

* Maintain flexibility with students, staff, and physical space in an evolving educational environment

* Communicate effectively with students and to build a strong language program

* Handle discipline in a positive manner; classroom management skills

* Work and plan cooperatively with other teachers, administrators, counselors and community members

* Provide an instructional program for students geared to meet their individual needs at their instructional level

* Apply teaching strategies that include the direct, cooperative and individual models

* Works in a flexible and cooperative manner

* Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all time

* Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students

* Maintain regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirement

* Plan and implement a program of study to following state and district standards that meet the individual needs and abilities of the students by providing effective, differentiated instruction using research-based practices.

* Implement instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for achieving stated objectives for instruction and student success, including use of technology.

* Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum student outcomes.

* Participate with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to meet the needs of students in (all curriculum areas).

* Educate special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with other staff.

* Create a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning for all students.

* Participate with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.

* Participate in State, Federal and District testing requirements.

* Provide positive supports and guidance to a diverse population.

* Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.

* Assess students' academic learning and/or skills for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student' progress, expectations, goals, etc.

* Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals.

* Maintain accurate, complete, confidential and timely records as required by law, District Policy, and Administrative Regulations including attendance, IEP information, progress reports, cumulative records, and classroom inventory.

* Confer with colleagues, administrators, students and/or parents when necessary.

* Collaborate with school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the quality of student performance, developing solutions and planning curriculum.

* Become familiar with and uphold the enforcement of school rules, Administrative Regulations and Board Policy.

* Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude when carrying out responsibilities as a faculty member.

* Perform assigned out-of-classroom supervision and other duties.

* Participate in staff meetings, planning events, and grade level/department/PLC/job-alike meetings.
