Job DescriptionPOSITION OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for teaching French courses to students in Grades 6-8.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Teach French courses to students in Grades 6-8.
- Focus 90%-100% of instructional day on French language instruction.
- Advise co‑curricular clubs and activities.
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement by establishing a culture for learning, providing clear communication, and engaging students.
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices through questioning, discussion techniques and reflection.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address them, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
- Provide clear, intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum, setting instructional outcomes and designing coherent instruction.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment, creating respect and rapport, managing classroom procedures, student behavior, and organizing a safe physical space.
- Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve learning; design assessments, use assessment in instruction, and maintain accurate records.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through effective, ongoing communication.
- Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
- Participate in professional community, grow and develop professionally, demonstrate professionalism.
- Annually establish student growth goals to ensure growth over time.
- Direct the activities of assigned non‑certificated personnel.
- Attend or participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District or building principal.
- Participate in site‑based decision‑making processes.
- Reports directly to and is supervised by the Building Administrator.
Required:
- Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in French.
Preferred:
- Experience in extensive travel, study, and/or residence in a French‑speaking country.
- Literate in French.
- Knowledge of instruction using sound research‑based best practices and pedagogy.
- Knowledge of Bellevue School District's curriculum and instructional practices such as teacher‑directed instruction, literature‑based reading, problem‑based learning, math problem‑solving, use of manipulatives, cooperative learning, and integrated curriculum.
- Training or direct experience with middle school aged students.
- Commitment to the District's vision, mission and goals.
- Demonstrates commitment to equity through culturally relevant teaching practices.
- Provides high quality instruction through differentiated instructional practices and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Ability to individualize instruction for a full range of students including gifted, mainstreamed special education, English language learners, and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to develop students’ technology literacy.
- Collaborative team approach.
- Effective, professional, collaborative, positive communication with students, parents, and colleagues orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in multi‑aged groups.
- Use varied assessments including performance tasks, portfolios, and student self‑assessment.
- Attends ongoing professional development activities.
- Strong positive attitude and belief in student potential.
- Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
