Required Qualifications- Current Washington Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement
- Evidence of successful experience in working as instructor or specialist, with students at appropriate grade level and in subject area
- Genuine desire to work with all students
- Full‑time position, 183 days
- Salary per State Scale
- Administers developmental testing programs, district assessments and state tests for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and developing individual learning plans.
- Administers first‑aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering) to provide appropriate care as assigned.
- Advises parents and guardians of student progress, communicates expectations and achievements, and develops methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals in behavior, motor development, communication, academics, and vocational areas, providing feedback.
- Collaborates with instructional staff and community resources (OT, PT, SLP) to improve student outcomes and meet classroom objectives.
- Counsels students to improve performance, health status, and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments for an effective program that addresses individual needs.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide materials aligned with individualized learning plans.
- Directs para‑professionals, volunteers, and student workers to support the classroom program.
- Instructs students to improve academics, interpersonal, and daily‑living skills through a defined course of study.
- Maintains confidential and non‑confidential records (IEPs, SEAS) to provide up‑to‑date information per guidelines.
- Manages student behavior to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Monitors students in various settings (classroom, playground, field trips) to maintain safety.
- Participates in meetings (SAP, IEP, PLC) to share information and gather data.
- Prepares written materials (IEPs, grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document progress.
- Reports incidents to protect student safety and adhere to policies.
- Responds to emergencies to resolve safety concerns and direct to personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues.
- Schedules students with para‑professionals for academic and therapeutic instruction to meet IEP goals.
- Supports classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual plans.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective functioning of the unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Competencies include applying assessment tools, operating office equipment and software, and preparing accurate records. Knowledge of Board of Education codes, district procedures, child development stages, and behavior management is required. Skills in data analysis, flexibility, and problem solving are essential, as is maintaining confidentiality and working flexible hours.
ResponsibilitiesWork under limited supervision using standardized practices, direct others within a small unit, and operate within a defined budget. Resources may be shared across units, allowing impact on organization services.
ExperienceJob related experience is required.
EducationMinimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Required Testing, Certificates & LicensesWA State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement. (If assigned to Elementary School, Elementary Education Endorsement required.)
