Job DescriptionSCHOOL LIBRARIAN
Qualifications- Current Washington Teaching Certificate with a K-12 Library Resource Endorsement
- Evidence of successful experience as instructor or specialist with students at appropriate grade level
- Strong classroom management skills
- Genuine desire to work with all students
- Administers subject‑specific assessments and district/state tests to assess student competency and develop learning plans.
- Advises parents/legal guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements and strategies for improvement.
- Analyzes test data to enhance student achievement by directly impacting instruction.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, administration and district specialists.
- Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, parents, business partners and community resources to improve overall quality of student outcomes.
- Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques and personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject‑specific assignments.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide individualized learning materials.
- Directs para‑professionals, volunteers and student workers to support an effective classroom program.
- Facilitates student learning (e.g., creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age‑appropriate activities) to achieve success in academics, interpersonal and daily living skills.
- Maintains confidential and nonconfidential records (e.g., grades, test scores) in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe, optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational environments (classroom, campus grounds, field trips, clubs, sporting events, graduation, dances) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates on building and district teams to contribute to collaborative effort with the goal of student success.
- Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety of students and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from various sources (students, teachers, parents, administrators) to resolve issues, provide information and/or direction.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- SKILLS:
Apply assessment instruments, operate office equipment, prepare and maintain accurate records. - KNOWLEDGE:
Advanced math, technical information, document composition, group facilitation; laws, policies, appropriate codes, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, behavioral management strategies. - ABILITY:
Schedule activities, gather/enter data, use equipment; work with diverse individuals, adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, work flexible hours.
Work under limited supervision using standardized practices; direct other persons within a small work unit; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other units to perform the job's functions.
Working EnvironmentOccasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity; 10% sitting, 40% walking, 50% standing; exposure to temperature extremes and possible injury risk.
Experience & EducationJob‑related experience required; minimum Bachelor’s degree in related area.
Required Testing, Certificates & LicensesWA State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
Continuing Education & Training ClearancesFingerprint/Background Clearance.
