Position: 1:1 Life Skills Para-educator/Transportation Support (As Needed)

Location: Winlock-Miller Elementary

Position Type: 6.5-8.0 Hours daily (8.0 hours daily could include transportation support as needed)

Job Summary

The Para educator assists (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of students, implementing students’ IEP accommodations and Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. This position could be expected to support student(s) during either AM or PM daily transportation as needed. This position is supporting a student who is attending WSD from another district. If this student was to move/unenroll from WSD, this position will be dissolved.

Examples

of Duties
  • Assist teachers in implementing students’ IEP accommodations and Specially Designed Instruction (SDI).
  • Monitor individual students, classroom, and playground activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Collect data to monitor student IEP goal progress and support IEP development.
  • Perform basic clerical functions (e.g., copying) to support the teacher in data collection, progress monitoring, and providing classroom materials.
Other Job Functions
  • Administer tests to assist the teacher in evaluating students' progress.
  • Provide small group instruction to students within the special education and general education classrooms.
  • Communicate daily, or as needed, with special education and general education teachers regarding student needs, progress, or areas of concern.
  • Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
  • Confer with teachers to assist in evaluating students' progress and implementing students' objectives.
  • Participate in various meetings to share information and/or improve skills/knowledge at the request of the Case Manager or Administration.
  • Supervise students during periods such as recess and lunch.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
  • Perform basic clerical functions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Use English in verbal and written form, with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Interact and support students with varied disabilities and academic needs.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including toileting/changing, feeding/plunging (G-Tube/plunging training provided), dressing, and mobility support.
  • Ability to do a 2 person lift of students over 50 lbs (training will be provided for proper lifting protocols).
  • Ensure the student’s physical comfort and safety throughout the school day.
  • Understand principles of child development and instructional processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records, learning, and behavior.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; meet schedules and deadlines; read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Rapidly learn methods and materials used in various instructional situations.
