- $45.95 per hour )

The Special Education Teacher will work full time at Elma Middle School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities and ensuring that their individualized education plans (IEPs) are implemented effectively. The teacher will work closely with other educators and parents to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Required Qualifications- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement
- WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)
- Experience in working with students identified for special education needs services in social adaptive skills and positive behavior management
- Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of students with a range of disabilities including sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties, conditions such as autism, social-emotional and mental health needs, or a combination of these difficulties
- Knowledge and/or experience in grade levels assigned and common core standards preferred
- Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, instruction, and technology
- Knowledge and/or experience with new state assessment requirements preferred
- Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
- The safety and health of students and others are essential functions of this position
- Experience in writing and managing IEPs for students, including data monitoring and tracking
- Experience in teaching special education at the middle school level preferred
- Work cooperatively and efficiently with administrators, staff, students, and parents
- Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team when requested and maintain positive inter-staff communications
- Develop programs for students with and without developmental disabilities
- Conduct functional vocational evaluations and achievement testing
- Utilize assistive technology in individual student education programs
- Coordinate with the speech-language pathologist and/or occupational therapist and/or physical therapist and/or psychologist in the provision of specialist services for eligible students
- Knowledge of screening and progress monitoring tools (iReady) as well as evaluation tools (WJ-IV)
- Meet state and federal requirements and deadlines in processing special education documentation
- Show evidence of adequate planning and preparation while maintaining an organized classroom conducive to learning
- Ability to focus students’ attention on the lesson while clearly stating objectives
- Skillfully apply teaching strategies with methods to evaluate and report student learning
- Must be able to establish clear expectations for student “in-classroom” conduct, making expectations known to students
- Must show enthusiasm, as well as guide and assist students while providing instruction
- Provide individual and group services to children and/or parents that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct
- Demonstrates evidence of continued learning interest related to academics, technology, and improved standards of learning
- Provide for special health care needs of students including personal hygiene and toileting/diapering as necessary.
- Maintain alertness at all times, in an effort to anticipate and prevent situations that might be unsafe; anticipate and prevent potential escalation of behavior. React promptly to maintain students’ safety.
