Located just outside of Seattle, WA, the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) is a public institution founded in 1949, offering 12 bachelor’s degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech serves the Eastside and is located in Kirkland, within the city on the eastern shore of Lake Washington, near companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and Evergreen Health, and within minutes of Microsoft and Nintendo.
Job SummaryLake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified part‑time instructor for the Business Technology program. All instructor positions require two or more years of relevant work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred. Business Technology instructors must be proficient with the current version of Microsoft Office software, preferably holding a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification, and be prepared to teach the latest applications and more.

Microsoft Outlook, Core and Expert level Microsoft Word, Core and Expert level Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Publisher, and Web‑Based Technologies. Some of these classes require on‑campus instruction.
Responsibilities- Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to program goals.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments.
- Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum.
- Develop and teach lessons that foster and support cultural diversity and non‑discrimination.
- Teach productive and constructive study skills to students.
- Design, deliver, and assess courses in keeping with learning outcomes using an online course system (currently Canvas).
- Maintain appropriate records indicating student progress and meeting college requirements.
- Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students.
- Design learning experiences that are ADA compliant and use UDL principles.
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
- College teaching experience preferred.
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications strongly preferred.
- Experience with Canvas or similar LMS strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Sensitivity and ability to interact successfully with diverse populations.
- Multilingual ability encouraged due to the college population.
- Previous experience with Canvas strongly preferred.
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part‑time faculty contracts is based on the number of credits assigned, the type of class taught, and the rates in the part‑time faculty salary schedule (Appendix
B). Step ranges are as follows:
- Step 1: $738.38 – $2,335.13
- Step 2: $819.15 – $2,457.46
- Step 3: $835.95 – $2,507.85
- Step 4: $893.51 – $2,680.54
- Step 5: $916.30 – $2,748.90
- Step 6: $957.08 – $2,871.24
Once part‑time faculty have worked 50% FTE or more for two consecutive quarters (with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided under the Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan, and a Deferred Compensation Plan. Sick leave accrues at 1 day prorated based on % of FTE effective upon employment.
