Behavior Technician (Elementary Colbert Location) - Up to 2 Positions

Behavior Technicians work under the supervision of building administrators to provide direct support related to the social, emotional, adaptive, and behavioral needs of students. Responsibilities include individualized student instruction, small and whole group support, collecting and analyzing data, assisting in de-escalation interventions, and facilitating professional development.

• Build and maintain a positive, caring relationship with all students.
• Monitor student progress, implement reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to assure growth.
• Work cooperatively with special and general education teachers and specialists serving all special education students.
• Document individual and group confidential data on student behaviors.
• Gather a consistent collection of data aligned to specific plans and identified behavior.
• Analyze data and provide usable interpretations for decision-making.
• Coordinate with general and special education staff to develop, implement, and monitor behavior intervention strategies.
• Provide expertise and direction to other classified staff on behavior intervention strategies.
• Deliver professional development to staff on special education topics.
• Perform non-violent crisis interventions.
• Ensure behavior plans are implemented consistently.
• Participate in meetings to exchange information about students as directed.
• Follow and implement plans, procedures, strategies, or tasks as directed by an administrator or certificated staff.
• Demonstrate interest in working with students, including those with special needs.
• Encourage and model expected behavior.
• Participate in training courses to enhance skills.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diversity among all members of the school, department, or district community.
• Report to assigned duty areas promptly and reliably.
• Assist in maintaining safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas including cafeteria, playground, corridors, study halls, gymnasium, auditorium, locker rooms, parking lots, crosswalks, detention rooms, and school buses.
• Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Provide first aid in case of illness or injury and report accidents to the building office.
• Perform other duties as directed by the building principal.
• Work cooperatively and respectfully with all members of the school community.

• Education/Training:
  Previous education and experience as a Behavior Tech/RBT. Internal candidates may be considered with completion of the 40‑hour RBT training or Washington State Special Education Specialty Certification.
• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certified or able to obtain RBT certification within the first 90 days of employment.
• MANDT or Right Response Trained or able to complete District Provided MANDT training within the first year.
• Successful experience working with children and youth with disabilities.
• Training or experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.
• Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly.
• Washington State Special Education Specialty Certification preferred.

• Effective communication with staff, students, and as a team member, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner.
• Ability to develop and maintain data systems for team decision-making.
• Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Proficiency in graphing behavior trends and writing behavior reports.
• Ability to accept supervision from administrators, certificated teachers, and special education directors.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with students and staff.
• Skill in making effective, quick decisions.
• Ability to assess emergency situations accurately.
