Position Overview

The CVA Counselor plays a pivotal role in supporting virtual academy students' academic trajectory, assessment requirements, and overall well-being. This position focuses on proactive academic monitoring through tiered credit audits, managing Section 504 accommodations, overseeing specific assessment programs (ALTA and World Language Testing), and providing short-term, limited mental health support and referrals.

Key Responsibilities
Academic Progress & Credit Auditing

Tiered Credit Auditing:
Collaborate regularly with CVA teaching staff to conduct tiered credit checks, monitoring student course completion, credit accumulation, and progress toward graduation.

Intervention Planning:
Identify at-risk students who are falling behind on credits and co-develop academic recovery or intervention plans with teachers, families, and administrators.

Academic Guidance:
Advises students on course selections, graduation requirements, and post-secondary planning within the virtual environment.

Section 504 Coordination & Compliance

Plan Management:
Maintain, review, and update all Section 504 plans for CVA students to ensure federal compliance and student accessibility.

Facilitation &

Collaboration:

Schedule and lead 504 evaluation and annual review meetings with families, teachers, and support staff.

Implementation Oversight:
Ensure teaching staff are aware of, understand, and appropriately implement required classroom and testing accommodations.

Assessment Coordination

Testing Oversight:
Coordinate, schedule, and maintain records for ALTA (Alternative Language Testing) and World Language Assessment programs.

Data Management:
Track language proficiency assessment data to ensure accurate student placement and fulfillment of language requirements.

Logistics & Communication:
Communicate testing schedules, guidelines, and expectations clearly to virtual students, guardians, and relevant staff.

Student Well-Being & Mental Health Support

Short-Term Counseling:
Provide limited, brief mental health support, check-ins, and crisis triage for virtual students experiencing social-emotional or personal challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Washington State ESA Counselor’s certificate.

Experience in the classroom or as a counselor is preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Kettle Falls Education Association (KFEA) and Policies and Procedures of Kettle Falls School District. The salary range for teachers in the Kettle Falls School District is between $52,034 and $99,772per school year. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. Each employee shall earnthree (3) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their percentage of FTE.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
