Position Overview
Rainier School District is seeking a dedicated, student-centered English Language Arts Teacher to join our team for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position plans, organizes, and delivers high-quality instructional activities designed to foster intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The ideal candidate will cultivate an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that aligns with District goals, School Board policies, and Washington State standards to maximize student achievement.
Schedule& Compensation
- Work Schedule: 180 days per school year | 7.0 hours per day | 5 days/week | plus Enrichment Days (35 hours)

August 31, 2026 - Salary: Placed per the current Rainier Certificated Salary Schedule (Subject to the 2026–2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement)
- Affiliation: Rainier Education Association (REA)

- Instructional Delivery: Plan and implement balanced, engaging lessons (lectures, discussions, individual and group work) aligned with Washington State Learning Standards / Common Core.
- Classroom Management: Establish and maintain positive, consistent behavioral expectations to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
- Student Assessment: Observe, evaluate, and document student academic performance, social development, and physical well-being; adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual student needs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with professional colleagues, grade-level/department teams, and building staff to coordinate curriculum and support building-wide academic initiatives.
- Communication: Maintain regular, professional communication with students, families, and guardians regarding instructional expectations, academic progress, and behavior.
- Professional Standards: Participate in building supervision, evaluations, district professional development, and state-mandated testing/assessment protocols.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
- English Language Arts Endorsement
- Successful completion of WSP / FBI background check and fingerprint clearance
- Deep subject-matter expertise in English Language Arts curriculum and instructional best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all audiences (students, staff, families, community).
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural responsiveness and supporting students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and developmental levels.
- Ability to integrate technology, modify curriculum for diverse learners, and utilize assessment data to drive instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to connect with students, staff and community members in a mutually respectful, supportive and accessible manner.
- Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and a collaborative professional mindset.
- Willingness to benefit from building supervision, evaluation programs and professional development.
- Manage the behavior of learners in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process and assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the school and school grounds.
- Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with other professional staff both school and non-school based, as required to maximize learning opportunities.
- Ability to stand, walk, or move around the classroom and school grounds for prolonged periods.
- Capacity to lift/carry up to 25 lbs, perform specialized instructional tasks, and maintain accurate records within established deadlines.
