PURPOSE STATEMENT:Substitute Teachers/ Emergency Substitutes are on an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
- Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
- Assist the teacherwithall aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
- Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
- Adhere to all Coupeville Schools board policies and procedures.
- Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
- Maintaina highlevel of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Observe and utilize reasonable and professional medical/safety precautions to include positioning children in a safe and secure manner
- A valid and appropriate Washington State teaching certificate;
- current immunizations;
- a demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with others;
- a helpful, calm, friendly, and polite manner when interacting with students, parents and school staff;
- the ability to work independently and cooperatively;
- the ability to make reasoned decisions;
- appropriate discretion concerning students, staff, and confidential or privileged information.

- Pass a Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check. (Estimated fee is $80, applicant paid)
- Complete the Required Safe Schools/Vector Training courses (non-paid)
- Valid Driver's License or photo identification
- Social Security Card
- Works in a classroom, frequently moving, standing, crouching, kneeling, squatting to interact with students.
- Moves within the school and occasionally between school locations.
- Uses a computer for multiple functions, and a telephone and/or email to communicate.
- Bends, twists, and lifts up to 20 pounds when accessing records and office supplies.
- May be required to lift or support or restrain students.
- Uses fingers, hands, arms, facial expressions, and vocalization when working with students.
- Occasionally exposed to high decibel alarm systems during drills or an actual emergency.
