Mossyrock -TK Para Educator

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a 6.5 hour Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Para Professional to join our team at Mossyrock Elementary School. The successful candidate will work closely with the TK teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for our youngest students.

This position supports students with a wide range of developmental, academic, behavioral, and individual needs in an inclusive classroom setting.

• High School Diploma
• Competency in the areas of reading, math, and language arts
• Meet federal guidelines and Washington state requirements for paraprofessionals
• Ability to relate to and work with children
• Ability to work with other staff members and parents/guardians
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to organize time and maintain a schedule
• Ability to follow teachers’ directions

• Previous successful experience working in an early childhood program.

• Assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for TK students
• Supervise and support students during classroom activities, recess, and other school activities
• Provide individual and small group instruction to students as directed by the TK teacher
• Assist with classroom management and provide positive, developmentally appropriate behavior and regulation support, including responding to challenging behaviors as directed by certificated staff
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
• Communicate regularly with the TK teacher and other school staff regarding student progress and needs
• Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required
• Other duties as assigned
• Able to assist students with personal care and development of self-help skills as needed, including toileting, feeding/eating, changing, handwashing, dressing, and other daily routines
• Willingness to participate in district-provided training related to student behavior, de escalation, safety, and other skills necessary for the position
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, transition between floor and standing positions, and move quickly when necessary to support and ensure student safety; able to lift up to 50 pounds as required
• Follows the direction of the certificated teacher
• Support students with IEPs by assisting with accommodations, goals, behavior supports, communication, and other individual needs as directed by certificated and special education staff
• Collaborate with general education and special education staff to support student success and inclusion
• Seeks out strategies to improve student interactions
• Maintains schedule
• Reliable in demeanor, attendance, and collaboration
• Positive and flexible attitude with students, staff, parents, and community members
• Willingness to work toward successful demonstration of core competencies
• Must participate in the Fundamental Course Training to gain the necessary skills to perform this position
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrated competence in basic academic/communication skills appropriate to site assignment
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
• The safety and health of students and others are essential functions of this position

• Perform such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• Know and consistently reinforce playground expectations.
• Promote safe play and proper use of equipment.
• Report accidents and serious behaviors promptly to the school office.
• Inform the principal about potential safety hazards (i.e. equipment in need of repair, animals on playground, etc.)
