TK​/ECEAP Paraeducator; Part-Time

SCHEDULE

2.5 hrs/day, Monday-Friday

• must be legally authorized to work in the US and at least 18 years old at the time of employment
• the equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education OR Initial or higher WA State Early Childhood Education Certificate OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition OR DCYF equivalent
• if the best candidate for the position is not fully qualified, the newly-hired staff person must be on a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to fully meet the qualifications of their role within five years from the date of hire. Progress monitoring will occur to ensure staff make yearly progress to meet the required qualifications.

• bilingual preferred
• previous experience in the field of Early Childhood Education

• three (3) verifiable professional references
• valid email address and telephone number
• valid driver’s license
• a passing score on the ETS© Para Pathways Assessment, or show evidence of college credits (72 quarter credits/48 semester credits)
• completion of the FCS (Fundamental Course of Study, a 28-hour required training) within the first year of employment
• earn the General Para educator Certificate (an additional 70-hour training) within three years of completing the FCS
• 30 hours Child Care Basics Initial STARS Certificate
• WA State Food Worker Card
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• proof of negative TB test
• proof of MMR immunization
• MERIT Portable Background Check/Fingerprints
• DCYF Bloodborne Pathogens Training
• DCYF Disaster Plans and Emergency Procedures Training
• DCYF Mandatory Reporter Training
• DCYF Safe Sleep Training

• completion of a minimum of 15 Professional Development hours (STARS hours or college credit equivalents) per program year in Early Childhood topics
• documentation of all training hours must be entered into the DCYF/MERIT database and verification provided to the Director in a timely manner

The Early Learning Programs ECEAP Para educator is responsible for demonstrating competency in implementing program activities under the instruction of the Director, Lead Teacher, specialists, and Early Learning staff in preparing and maintaining classroom operations, tracking and maintenance of building organization and inventory, supervision, and data collection, in order to provide quality early learning services that meet or exceed the standard of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), ECEAP, and Early Achievers.

The Para educator participates in presenting a developmentally appropriate and comprehensive child development program under the direction of the Lead Teacher, including supporting the children in their learning experiences through play, and welcoming and supporting parents in the classroom. The Para educator is instrumental in setting the stage for a positive building and program culture. The Para educator must be present and engaged during all hours per year of child direct service whenever there are more than ten children present or as needed to ensure a safe learning environment.
