Job Description

JOB TITLE:
Elementary Long-Term Substitute

Temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s preferred) and a valid Washington State teaching certification appropriate for the assigned position and grade level (or eligibility for emergency certification). Experience working with students in an educational setting, strong instructional and communication skills, ability to use educational technology and differentiate instruction, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Bilingual preferred. Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment.

REPORTS TO: Building principal and district superintendent.

JOB GOAL: To design and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that promotes student growth, academic achievement, and social-emotional development while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment in accordance with district policies and state standards.

SUPERVISES: Students and para educators as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver comprehensive lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and the educational goals of the school.
  • Present subject matter concepts using a variety of instructional techniques, such as direct instruction, discussions, hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and multimedia resources.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes active student participation, collaboration, critical thinking, and academic growth.
  • Assess student learning and progress through a variety of methods, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Identify and address individual student learning needs by utilizing differentiated instruction, accommodations, and appropriate instructional strategies when necessary.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance the teaching and learning experience, incorporating educational software, online resources, and interactive tools as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, assessments, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate with teachers, parents or guardians regarding student progress, attendance, behavior, and academic concerns through parent-teacher conferences, emails, or other appropriate means while maintaining confidentiality and complying with school policies.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning the academic, social, and behavioral progress of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and faculty members to develop and align curriculum, share best practices, and support student learning across grade levels.
  • Dress and act in a professional manner.
  • Maintain punctuality and reliability in all professional responsibilities.
  • Stay current on advancements in education, instructional methodologies, curriculum developments, and best practices, incorporating effective approaches into teaching practices.
  • Develop and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other school staff.
  • Teach students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior by following the written classroom plan that is connected to school-wide behavior expectations and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
