Mechanical Design Engineer, AFT Quality

Overview

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) is seeking a mechanical design engineer to conceive, develop, prototype and deploy modular data‑collection systems se systems will be installed in a large variety of environments across the Amazon network, but need to be modular and pluggable to support multiple sensors and configurations. AFT builds and operates hardware, software, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers.

The team collaborates with machine learning scientists, fulfillment associates, labeling teams, field engineering and maintenance personnel across Amazon worldwide.

• Design mechanical systems for mounting cameras, optics, other sensors, wiring, computer systems, and supporting infrastructure.
• Engineer modular, pluggable data‑collection hardware for diverse environments.
• Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from executives to warehouse operations staff.
• Work in a fast‑paced environment with delivery time measured in months.
• Collaborate across hardware and software teams to support complex systems.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Solid Works or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies.
• 8+ years of engineering experience.
• Experience leading cross‑functional projects and managing large, complicated programs.

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• Experience with the project management of technical projects.
• Experience integrating cameras, optical systems, sensors, and/or material handling equipment in a warehouse environment.
