Location: Keyport
GVI, Inc. seeks a Tech Writer to provide document development on behalf of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Keyport.
Position ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include technical manual updates, managing and monitoring technical manual feedbacks (NAVSEA 4160/1), updating the ASW Mobile Target MK 30 Mod 1 program‑wide webpages on LIDOL and MBPS, and using CMPRO to access and provide feedback on the technical manual impacts of proposed Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and accessing engineering drawings to verify technical data.
Technical Manual Updates- Develop manuscripts of updates to target technical manuals (TMs) per customer direction, approved NAVSEA 4160/1 (Technical Manual Deficiency/Evaluation Reports (TMDERs)/Technical Manual Feedback Reports (TMFRs)), and other source material, including engineering drawings.
- Ensure new and updated TMs adhere to governing TMCR/TMSR and style guide.
- Assist technical manual manager in completing information in registering Technical Manual Identification Number (TMIN) Requests, obtaining National Stock Numbers associated with technical manual updates, and registering updates in MBPS.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of TMs to ensure accuracy of TM content, clarify and answer questions.
- Produce the Manuscript Review Copy of the update (using Quick Silver or Arbortext) and deliver to stakeholders for review/approval.
- When the update is completed and the technical manual certification sheet with all signatures is available, post the Final Reproducible Copy on LIDOL in a manner suitable for technical libraries and for viewing by technical manual users.
- Issue a notification to the MK 30 Target technical manual community of the update to downloaded documents posted in LIDOL to install updates in controlled copies of technical manuals.
- Provide a copy of the Final Reproducible Copy to the Technical Manual Manager for upload to MBPS.
- Convert technical manual text into Arbortext.
- Receive and download NAVSEA 4160/1 written against MK 30 Mod 1 Target technical manuals and assist users in drafting feedbacks.
- Register feedbacks in LIDOL, TMDER Tracker, and MBPS.
- Forward feedbacks to MK 30 Target ISEA engineers for review.
- Track status and send review reminders.
- Upon approval, disapproval or incorporation of a feedback into a technical manual update, register status change in LIDOL, the TMDER Tracker, and assist the Technical Manual Manager in updating MBPS.
- Update LIDOL webpages at the request of government personnel.
Assess technical manual impacts related to proposed engineering change proposals and review‑for‑validation requests.
Projected Training- Familiarize with conventional Navy technical manual specifications and format.
- Familiarize with MK 30 Target and SSE technical manual series.
- Learn Arbortext and Quick Silver authoring software.
- Familiarize with the classification and maintenance of feedbacks: under review, approved/awaiting incorporation, and historical archive.
- Familiarize with the MK 30 pages on LIDOL and how to update them with ideas for possible redesign.
- Familiarize with the use of CMPRO to access engineering drawings and access polls regarding proposed ECPs and RFVs.
- Familiarize with MBPS.
- Must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Navy technical manuals.
- Familiarity with Arbortext or other SGML/XML authoring platform and Quick Silver.
Compensation: $40.18 / hour. Hazardous Work: $5.09 / hour.
