The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Civil Engineer 3 for the Northeast Region. As our journey‑level Civil Engineer 3, you will design and manage critical forest road networks, conduct structural bridge inspections, and engineer fish passage structures. You will also survey, model, manage contracts, and supervise heavy equipment crews to solve diverse hydraulic and structural problems.
Responsibilities- Lead preparation and technical review of timber sale road construction contracts; provide support to the east uplands districts in developing construction contracts, road plans, and timber sale compliance.
- Review timber sale road plans prepared by the District Engineer and provide field reconnaissance, cost estimating, and project implementation support.
- Identify and mitigate fish blockages on region road infrastructure, including assessment of fish barriers, permitting interactions with tribes, environmental groups, and state agencies, cost estimation, design of fish passable structures, contract preparation, construction compliance inspections, monitoring, and documentation.
- Identify and mitigate road maintenance issues by designing solutions for maintaining and repairing forest roads to meet Forest Practices standards for active and abandoned roads.
- Provide leadership to younger engineers: supervise up to two civil engineer 2’s, one engineering aide, and one heavy equipment operator; ensure accuracy and timely submission of all team timesheets, manage leave requests, and assign workflow.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Forest Engineering, or other closely related field.
- Two years of forest engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in timber harvesting, forest road layout, and logging practices.
- Knowledge of Forest Practices and applicable rules.
- Experience in interpreting, creating, and communicating written, oral, and graphic directions, maps, plans, drawings, and specifications within policy, state, and federal regulations.
- Experience in developing and administering contracts for road construction, maintenance, and abandonment.
- Knowledge of logging and construction equipment, including construction costs, capabilities, and time estimates.
- Professional Engineer registration.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Traverse
PC, ROADENG, and related engineering programs. - Experience with GPS, Total Station, transit, laser level, and basic surveying tools.
- Strong supervision, leadership, and management skills.
