Position Summary

This position conducts stress analyses on designs of experimental, prototype, or production aircraft mission equipment, and related components to evaluate ability to withstand stresses imposed during flight or ground operations imposed by static, dynamic, or thermal loads, due to operational or test conditions.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for entire projects with significant scope and complexity
  • Contributes to the department or business unit by applying advanced knowledge of one or more functional areas
  • Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic, or composite structural material for product design or operation
  • Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
  • Studies preliminary specifications and design requirements to determine strength and bending characteristics of parts, assemblies, and total airframe
  • Consults with design personnel regarding results of analyses and need for additional analysis, test or design modifications
  • Formulates mathematical models of stress problems or devises other methods of computer analysis or simulation to assist in stress analysis
  • Mentors other engineers on proper design and analysis
  • Participates in meetings with customers and regulators
  • Assists in the bidding process for deliverables
  • Might lead a small team of engineers as part of a larger project

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Advanced experience with Solid Works
  • Advanced knowledge of Femap or other FEA software preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of structural analysis techniques
  • Working knowledge of FAA and foreign aviation regulations
Education, Certifications and Experience
  • BS or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related field
  • 11-20 years of professional experience in a stress‑related field required
