About the RoleThe Electronics Technician L3 performs service, maintenance and support work with minimal supervision while mentoring junior technicians. The Level 3 Technician is recognised as a Subject Matter Expert across multiple communications technologies.
Skills and ExperienceEducation:
A recognised trade qualification, Certificate III in Electronics and Communication (UEE
30911), Communications Technology, or Telecommunications Engineering
Minimum 10 years' experience in Radio Frequency (RF) systems integration, commissioning and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, preferably within the mining and/or oil and gas sectors.
Extensive experience with digital (TETRA, P25, DMR) and analogue (AM, FM) radio and microwave systems
Familiar with common network monitoring protocols including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Syslog, ICMP, and Net Flow/sFlow.
Skilled in Internet Protocol (IP) networks and routing
Ability to fault find to a component level
Ability to read and understand complex circuit diagrams, cable schedules and network drawings
Strong understanding of RF connectors, coaxial cable types, impedance, cable losses and correct installation practices
Knowledge of fibre optic infrastructure including single-mode and multi-mode systems, connector types, splice enclosures and patch panels
Knowledge of Ethernet cabling standards (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), structured cabling and Power over Ethernet (PoE)
Competent in testing and certifying coaxial, fibre optic and Ethernet cabling using appropriate test equipment
Able to operate vector network analysis equipment and interpret results against expected performance outcomes
Ability to test and certify Ethernet cabling using cable analysers and network test equipment
Ability to manage technical resources to achieve an outcome
Sound judgement to make appropriate decisions with limited direction at times
Good safety knowledge with a commitment to safe working practices
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with others
Able to work well alone without supervision and collaboratively in a team environment
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Other Criteria:Eligibility to work in Australia
Current C-Class Driver’s Licence.
Recent national police history check
Key Responsibilities:Participate in the On-Call roster and is capable of completing on-call duties with limited direction
Ensure all tasks assigned by the Leading Hand are completed safely and efficiently.
Plan, organise and execute technical work to achieve project and maintenance objectives.
Prepare quotations for service work.
Competently carry out service restorations and fault rectification.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities across communications infrastructure.
Install, terminate, inspect and commission RF coaxial, fibre optic and Ethernet cabling systems.
Install and terminate RF connectors, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
Conduct RF cable testing including VSWR, Return Loss, Distance to Fault (DTF), cable loss, insertion loss and continuity using Site Master or equivalent test equipment.
Conduct fibre optic testing including connector inspection, insertion loss testing, Optical Power Meter testing, Visual Fault Locator (VFL) testing and OTDR testing.
Conduct Ethernet cabling including wire mapping, cable length verification, continuity and network performance testing.
Interpret test results, identify faults and complete corrective actions where required.
Commission new communications systems and verify performance against design specifications.
Maintain accurate commissioning records, cable test reports and as-built documentation.
Ensure communications infrastructure complies with relevant Australian Standards, client specifications and Radlink quality requirements.
Effectively supervise technical personnel and contractors.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
Support management in maintaining a Zero Harm safety culture through compliance with HSEQ policies and procedures.
Undertake all activities in line with Radlink HSEQ Policy, reporting hazards, near misses and incidents promptly.
Help maintain a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
Provide written and verbal technical reports to management and clients as required.
Liaise professionally with clients, vendors and suppliers.
Undertake administrative duties associated with service delivery and project completion.
