Industrial Design Engineer, Sort and Ultra Fast Engineering

Job :  |  Services LLC

Worldwide Engineering & Innovation's (WWEI) Design Engineering team is seeking an innovative engineering project leader to develop and deliver next-generation sortation and transportation systems. This role impacts design and process design engineering for the Sub Same Day (SSD) & North American Sort Centers (NASC).

If you are excited by leading engineering projects among world-class talent to reach full potential and using technologies to develop sortation and logistics systems for a multinational company, this role may be for you. You will design the next generation of world-class sortation centers and logistics systems across the globe, with ownership of solving complex problems and leveraging automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and robotics.

We are looking to add a handful of high-impact engineers to our team. You will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our sortation and distribution systems. Projects may include green-field, brown-field, and retrofit scenarios, including highly automated fulfillment centers, cross-dock facilities, and transportation centers. Projects will involve template-based work and designs-from-scratch, with ownership of process designs end-to-end.

You will work with a team of highly skilled engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Our team handles hundreds of projects each year. You will be challenged, learn, work on high-impact, high-visibility projects, and grow. Travel up to 25% globally to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the sortation and transportation network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in short time frames.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects.
  • Communicate the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related work
  • Experience in management of engineering design projects
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of related experience in Design/Innovation, R&D, manufacturing, process, or industrial engineering
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering (any domain) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making
  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and high-speed manufacturing systems
  • Experience with design-in-safety
  • Experience with process design based on Lean principles
