Job Overview
Precision Industrial Contractors, Inc. is seeking a full‑time CAD Technician for immediate hire. Create and design shop and field drawings, structures, fabricated parts/assemblies for new and existing products, facilities and equipment. Provide shop drawings, assemblies, and layouts that focus on function, cost, manufacturability and quality. The role reports to the manufacturing manager and requires frequent contact with manufacturing, mechanical design, sales and management personnel.
Responsibilities include working from 2D and 3D models or blueprints to generate models, flat patterns and parts for laser/water‑jet cutting and press‑brake machines.
- Use AutoCAD and Inventor software to generate shop drawings, field drawings and layouts.
- Program parts for water‑jet cutting using optimization nesting software.
- Solicit feedback from production personnel and troubleshoot production problems relating to part design criteria.
- Maintain and update product design criteria as necessary.
- Provide feedback to sales and submittal departments regarding design criteria.
- Provide technical support to sales, submittals and manufacturing as required.
- Research new and improved construction methods for continued product improvement.
- Train personnel in product designs, as required.
- Assist in standardizing selection criteria for parts.
- Properly maintain drawing system integrity in the product data management system.
- Work independently to complete groups of drawing projects with good documentation and organization.
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D engineering standards.
- 3D mechanical/design drafting experience.
- Experience working in a production environment.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Associate’s degree—prefer Drafting Technology or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- High school diploma/GED with vocational training in CAD.
- Minimum two years of relevant mechanical/structural drafting experience.
- Architectural background highly beneficial for the position.
- Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software applications.
- Strong attention to detail with capability of self‑checking work for accuracy.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, good reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to manage time, adapt to workflow demands and prioritize work.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints and specifications.
- Proficient in shop drawings and detailing.
- Ability to produce re‑ction drawings or shop drawings.
- Ability to detail from contract drawings and models.
- Understand and interpret architectural and structural engineer drawings.
- Knowledge of structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
- Experience in Tekla and Solid Works—a plus, or the ability to learn it.
- Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; use hands and fingers to feel and handle.
- Occasionally required to walk or operate office equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required: vision and ability to adjust and focus to read floor plans, mechanical blueprints, and specifications.
- Sit at a desk and work on a computer for several hours per day.
- Heavy PC use.
- Some local travel required.
