Our client, a leading renewable energy developer, owner, and operator, is seeking a Vice President of Project Finance to support the financing and continued growth of its nationwide portfolio of solar and energy storage projects.
The Vice President of Project Finance will play a key role in structuring, negotiating, and executing project-level financing transactions across the capital stack. This individual will work closely with internal development, finance, legal, construction, and asset management teams, as well as external lenders, investors, advisors, and other capital partners. The ideal candidate will bring significant renewable energy project finance experience, strong financial and analytical capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to lead complex transactions from initial structuring through closing.
Responsibilities:- Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of project financing transactions, including sponsor equity, tax equity, construction debt, and term debt.
- Manage financing processes from initial investor and lender outreach through due diligence, documentation, negotiation, and financial close.
- Develop and maintain relationships with banks, institutional investors, tax equity investors, and other capital providers.
- Evaluate financing alternatives and develop capital structures that optimize project economics, risk allocation, and returns.
- Build, review, and maintain sophisticated project finance models, including cash flow forecasts, debt sizing, tax equity structures, and return analyses.
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses to evaluate project risks, financing assumptions, and investment returns.
- Lead financial and commercial due diligence for individual projects and project portfolios.
- Coordinate responses to investor and lender diligence requests and manage transaction work streams across internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with development, engineering, construction, legal, accounting, and asset management teams to identify and resolve issues affecting project financeability.
- Review and negotiate financing term sheets, credit agreements, equity agreements, and other transaction documentation in coordination with internal and external counsel.
- Assess project economics and provide financial guidance throughout the development and construction lifecycle.
- Monitor market conditions, financing trends, tax considerations, and regulatory developments affecting renewable energy transactions.
- Support portfolio acquisitions and other strategic investment opportunities through financial analysis and transaction structuring.
- Prepare investment materials, financial analyses, and recommendations for senior leadership and other key stakeholders.
- Manage multiple financing transactions simultaneously while maintaining transaction timelines and ensuring successful execution.
- Mentor and support junior members of the project finance team.
- Identify opportunities to improve financing processes, financial models, diligence procedures, and transaction execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- Significant experience in project finance, infrastructure finance, investment banking, private equity, renewable energy finance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience financing renewable energy or infrastructure projects, with solar and/or energy storage experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of project finance structures, including construction debt, term debt, sponsor equity, and tax equity.
- Proven experience leading complex financing transactions from initial structuring through closing.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills with experience evaluating project cash flows, financing structures, and investment returns.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy project economics, transaction due diligence, and risk assessment.
- Experience negotiating financing terms and working with lenders, investors, legal counsel, and other transaction counter parties.
- Ability to manage multiple complex transactions and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively across development, finance, legal, construction, accounting, and asset management functions.
